A structural study in compressed earth and steel.
Object 1 is a site-responsive architectural piece exploring the dialogue between compressed earth and raw steel. Each commission begins with a conversation about place, use, and intention. The final form emerges from the specifics of the site and the client's vision, and no two pieces are identical.
The first studies began with compressed earth samples gathered from three sites across Brandenburg. Each block was pressed under controlled conditions and allowed to cure for thirty days before structural testing. The variation in clay content across samples produced unexpected results — the least refined material proved the most resilient under load.
Steel intervention points were designed in response to the earth's failure modes. Rather than imposing a uniform grid, the steel follows the logic of compression — appearing where the material asks for it, receding where the earth holds its own. The dialogue between the two materials is the architecture.
Installation took place over five days on site. The final piece sits within its landscape without dominating it — a presence that rewards attention without demanding it. Visitors have described it as appearing to have always been there, which is the closest thing to success that site-specific work can achieve.
